My friend Lesa got a pattern for a really cute purse and showed me the one she made for herself. So I decided I needed to have one too. I went to "Quilt-a-Way" to pick out some fabric that I liked, some variegated thread, and a decorative button. You are supposed to pick out 7 different designs of fat quarters for this project. But in the future when I make another purse, I don't think I'm going to pick out 7 different ones, since some of the patterns will only show up on the inside of the bag anyway. No sense getting 7 really cute ones if some aren't even going to show, right? Anyhoo, here is what I picked out:
I picked out three that really stood out to me. The green back with pink and blue flowers, the blue leaves with pink flowers and the blue back with pink flowers. They reminded me of my great grandma, and I was really digging the old fashioned look of these. Then I found some other soft prints to go with those.
I don't know why, but I really loved this pattern. So old lady-ish. It rocks!
This was the pattern I wanted for my front. I had already quilted that side and sewn on my pocket before I realized I had made huge mistake and that wasn't going the front of my bag after all. I was bummed out, but had to work around my mistake.
So here I am bitterly going at my pocket with the seam ripper to put on the correct front flap.

I made LOTS of mistakes along the way, even with Lesa's help. This was my first major sewing project in a long time, and to be honest, the pattern was a little hard to follow. But it still shouldn't have taken me 12 hours STRAIGHT to make this bag!! That's right, it was indeed a labor of love. Not only did I put the fabric on in the wrong order, I put 2 layers of batting in, when there was only supposed to be one, which explains why I broke so many needles sewing the bottom! Aye, aye aye!!!
But in the end I was happy and I got an extreme sense of satisfaction knowing I could make something like this. I love this bag because it's comfortable to wear and is big enough for all my stuff.
