Felted Bag

My grandma gave me this bag for Easter and I absolutely love it! She found an old sweater at a thrift shop and turned it into this little spring tote. She felted the wool which is a process of breaking up the fibers in the wool with needles, rubbing soap in it and soaking it in hot water, washing and drying it. At least that's how she explained it to me. The bag is now really soft instead of itchy-scratchy like original wool fabric usually is. She didn't use a pattern or else I would share it with you all. She just cut the fabric how she wanted it and hand sewed it. She took strips of the sweater, made loops and then linked them together to make the handle. She used part of the collar of the sweater to make the letter J (ahem...my first name initial) and then hand sewed these roses along it. She made slits in the front and two skinny strips on the opposite side to tie the bag shut. I think it is so cute and just wanted to show how crafty my grandma is! Thanks for the awesome gift grandma!
