Self Portrait

Okay, before viewing these next pictures, keep in mind that this was my first attempt at a serious self portrait. This was an assignment in my beginning drawing class, so don't think I'm stuck on myself or something equally egotistical. We had to practice drawing several other people before doing a self portrait. The assignment was to draw ourselves by looking in a mirror (not from a photograph) and we were supposed to have a light source that would create shadow and highlights on our faces. The other requirement was to wear some kind of accessory revealing something about our personality (hat, earrings, scarf, glasses, etc.) For my very first time I think it turned out okay. If I were to do it again I would not exaggerate my features as much. And to avoid looking like an ice cold biotch, I would also try to smile. :)

The features might look larger than reality, but practice makes perfect right? I would like to make the hair more realistic looking too. With that said, does it look like me at all?

This is a close up at an angle to show the paper better. I used a charcoal stick to black out the paper and smudged it with a paper towel. Then I used my eraser(s) to make the highlighted areas. I used a charcoal pencil for other detail work. I can't remember the type of paper used here, but it was similar to Bristol paper, only slightly lower in quality.
